On March 31st, Bexhill 2 played their penultimate match of the season against a strong Crowborough team. Bexhill was heavily out rated on 3 of the 4 boards and it was perhaps no
great surprise that Crowborough won the match 3 to 1.
The score, however, does not tell how close the match was.
John played very well on board 1 to defeat an opponent who out rated him by 80 points.
On board 2 Derek played a youngster who is progressing well in the world of Chess and who managed to get the better of Derek.
Board 3 saw an epic effort by Steve Merchant, playing an opponent rated over 400 hundred points higher.
Steve engineered what was a winning position, but made a wrong choice in the endgame to let his opponent off the hook.
Sharon on board 4 also had a strong position against a much higher rated opponent, but unfortunately
could not close the game out.
So in the end a win for Crowborough, but a fine effort from Bexhill 2.
