A tough loss…

On Thursday 14th April, Bexhill 1 hosted  Horsham 3 in the Mid Sussex League.

On board 4, our newest club member Leo Woning made his debut, and what a debut it was. Playing on board 4 he won his game in brilliant fashion forcing his very experienced opponent to resign after just 20 moves.

The remaining three games were all very long and hard fought affairs.

John on board 3 seemed to have come back well from a tough position, but his opponent found an excellent move in the end game and eventually John was left with no option but to resign.

On board 1 Janis maintained his unbeaten record this season by getting a draw at the end of a 3 hour game.

On board 2 Steve Blewitt was not feeling very well and this seemed to affect his game. He mounted a strong attack, but his opponent managed to survive it and slowly gained the ascendency and after 3 hours and 5 minutes Steve was forced to resign. It is worth noting that in the 2 seasons that Bexhill have played in the leagues this is the first game that Steve has not won.

So the final score was 2.5 to 1.5 to Horsham.

The final match of the season for the first team will be on May 12th away to East Grinstead Bookshop, in what will be a must win match if we are to finish second in the league.
