On the 25th February, 11 of our club members headed over to Crowborough for their 37th congress.
It’s a great showing for the club and we were the second highest scoring club!
The congress is a 6 round rapidplay (25+5) and was divided into two sections: the championship and the challengers. (Roughly over and under 1500)
Two of our juniors played in the challengers section.
Sebastian Merchant won his first game and then proceeded to have one of those days that you would like to forget ever happened! So we won’t talk anymore about that!
His brother however, Samuel Merchant, had a great day and scored 4.5 and finished joint second winning £50!
The rest of the club played in the tough championship section!
Leo Woning and Steve Merchant both finished on 2 points.
Bill Luxton, Michael Hayward and Janis Petersons finished on 3.
Bill Tracey and Anh Nguyen finished on 3.5.
Steve Blewitt finished on 4 points!
And finally Mark Rich scored 4.5 and took 3rd place on tie break!
Many thanks to Crowborough chess club for organizing another fantastic event and well done to all our Bexhill members for their great performances!
