Bexhill have a growing junior chess club that meet on a Friday evening at St. Marks. (Term time ONLY)
Guided training occurs from 6-7pm, though some of the older/ more experienced players stay on till 8pm to play more games or some fun chess variants.
We try to cater to all levels and all ages as best we can. We currently have complete beginners up to county players in our group! We charge £4 per child and £2 for any siblings that attend. The club is run 100% by volunteers headed by Sharon and Steve Merchant. All the money taken mostly covers the room rental, and any leftover is reinvested in extra bits for the kids (such as christmas parties) or into equipment. (Boards, clocks, pieces etc.)
Children simply wishing to come and play and have fun are most welcome! But for those wishing to take their chess further, full support can be offered to break into the county scene or even to play at national level.
We fully believe in the magic of chess and the many benefits it can offer to children of all ages. It has been proven to:
- Improve concentration and memory
- Enhance reading and Maths skills
- Fosters logical/ critical thinking
- Develops creativity
- Encourages and rewards hard work
