Bexhill has a growing junior chess club that meet on a Friday evening at St. Marks. (Term time ONLY)
Guided coaching occurs from 6-7pm, though some of the older/ more experienced players stay on till 8pm to play more games. In this current 2025-6 season, the club offers group coaching for those children wanting to develop their chess knowledge and skills, provided by our new member who is a European Chess Union Trainer, Oliver Kuzmanoski.

Children not so interested in improving and simply wishing to come and play and enjoy the game are most welcome and they can choose to play in a separate social chess group if they do not wish to participate in the coaching.
We try to cater to all levels and all ages as best we can. We charge £5 per child and £2.50 for any siblings that attend. Or £25 for a 6 week half term. The club is run 100% by volunteers headed by Oliver ( above) supported by a varied group of adult club members. All the money taken mostly covers the room rental, use of projection equipment and any leftover is reinvested in extra items or into equipment. (Boards, clocks, pieces etc.)
We fully believe in the magic of chess and the many benefits it can offer to children of all ages. It has been proven to:
- Improve concentration and memory
- Enhance reading and Maths skills
- Fosters logical/ critical thinking
- Develops creativity
- Encourages and rewards hard work
