BEXHILL JUNIOR SUCCESSES POUR IN
Bexhill Juniors are flourishing with success after success in chess events, so many of them it’s hard to keep up!

Luke Chapman (pictured here) has just won the 44 Chess Talents Tournament at Frydek-Mistek in the Czech Republic. Competing 17-21 April, he won the u-15 section, a Standard play event, unbeaten over 9 rounds, with 7.5/9 (just 3 draws!), a full point ahead of his nearest opponents.
After the first couple of rounds the four best England age-group players formed a 4- person team. Luke competed on Board 1, his score contributing to England winning the tournament team prize. The other European sides were Austria, Czechia, Slovakia and Poland.
Another 100 points on Luke’s rating!?
On his return, at our club he won the Grand Prix 8 rapid play Tournament on Friday 25 April with straight 4/4 against strong opposition.
Not only these successes, Luke joined other teammates, Andy Nguyen and Harry Morter, alongside Berk Simsek who is a member at the Bexhill Academy chess club, on behalf of the Academy, to recently win the County Championship.
Bexhill Academy defeated Brighton College A – 3-1, Lancing College Prep. -3-1 and St Andrews Prep.- 4-0.
10 out of 12 possible points.
The Academy team will now proceed to the County Finals
A fantastic result for our town’s chess community in large part down to Bexhill Junior Chess club members.
